Meet at 9:45 am for a 10:00 am start
GPC Route: Old La Honda Tunitas Creek Loop
Start Location: Woodside Town Hall
Pre-registration
This weeks ride is more south than usual to ride one of my favorite loops from Woodside up Old La Honda - having lunch in Pescadero and back via Tunitas Creek. This route bags two epic climbs so I hope to see some epic climbers. I have an electric car and rack that holds 3 bikes so if anyone near Kensington/El Cerrito/ Albany needs a ride please let me know by texting my phone and I will confirm (or not) and get the pickup details from you Please also note I pushed the meet and start time out a little bit to allow for more travel time.
There is often a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. Faster riders should feel free to push on after lunch. Just tell the leader first.

Meet at 8:15 am for a 8:30 am start Rain Date: Sun Oct 8
Start Location: Livermore - Ernie Rodrigues Softball fields
Pre-registration
I am postponing this ride to the Sunday's rain date, October 8, when it will be about 10 degrees cooler. Same start time.
It's October and the days are getting shorter which means it is time for Nature to begin her Halloween display as the tarantulas emerge and begin their quest for love. What better place than the remote and spectacular roads of eastern Alameda County and the San Antonio Valley to view these shy arachnids? This is a very simple out and back along Mines Road and Route 130 as we go up the backside of Hamilton. Meet at 8:15 for a 8:30 roll out from the softball fields in Livermore. I don't know if the Junction is open (it won't be on the way out) but there should be water at the CalFire station. Bring coins/bills for the vending machines at the Visitor Center at the top of Mt. Hamilton. I listed this route as TM so we can be sure to spot the spiders as they are creeping along the road but it will probably be at the upper end of TM. If you are lamenting the fact that you won't get a full century out of this ride, you are more than welcome to add an out and back up Del Valle. We'll be waiting for you at HomeGrownHops on Mines near Tesla. The route can be found here: Backside of Hamilton. Ebikes OK. Helmets required.

LATEST UPDATE: RIDE CANCELLED DUE TO HEAT. Cooler and wiser heads have prevailed, and decided to postpone this ride to a cooler day. 97* temperatures in Livermore make even an early start daunting. Thanks for everybody's interest, and I'll get it rescheduled sometime soon.
This will be the slower, gentler version of Ted's Tarantula ride. We'll meet at the same time and place (the ballfields at 8:15) so that we can meet, mingle and head out with the faster group at 8:30. But this will be a slower version of a TM pace, and T-paced riders who are comfortable navigating and riding on their own are also welcome. After the big climb to get to the plateau on Mines, it's a lovely roll until more hills appear before the Junction. We'll stop for lunch at the Junction Cafe, which may or may not be open (leader will call to confirm opening time and will post information to this listing -- we may choose to ride a bit farther if we're just a bit early for the Cafe). Bring lunch or at least snacks just in case we are left to our own devices, but water will be available at the fire station. Forecast for Livermore on Saturday is hot, another reason for the early start so that we can beat the worst of the heat. Let's go find some creepy-crawlies. Helmets please.

Grizzlies! Believe it or not, it's that time of year again. We are holding a member BBQ after the October ASSR on 10/14, and will also be discussing and recruiting for the open coordinator positions this year. Don't worry - you don't need to commit to anything to join the party! Ride the ASSR, then bring your appetite and head over to the Orinda Community Center Gazebo for some burgers, brews, and century news!
The 12:00PM meeting time is for those who are volunteering to help set up and start grilling - the party itself will start around 12:30/1PM when riders start rolling in from ASSR.
Orinda Community Center Park: 28 Orinda Way, Orinda, CA 94563

Meet at 9:00 am
Start Location: SF - Ferry Building Front
Pre-registration
First thing people should note is the earlier meeting time--9:00. By virtue of being in San Francisco and the number of turns we take on this route, it truly does take time. We will roll at 9:10. Second, this ride consists of 5 climbs: Presidio, Legion of Honor, Twin Peaks, Eureka (Noe Valley), and Bernal Hill and a few intermediate ones like Chenery. Third, the ride highlights the bakery Breadbelly, which is a hybrid of Asian, Californian, and American. Optional lunch at Senor Sisig at back of the Ferry Building. Hope you can make it. If you do, please make sure that you have the route loaded or written down. (If you write things down, you remember.) It is also advised to have a working knowledge of the city streets.

GPC Route: Lake Merritt BART to S Hayward BART via Bay Trail
Start Location: Lake Merritt BART
Pre-registration
Join us for a friendly leisurely paced mixed terrain ride on a Sunday fall afternoon. This is a BART to BART ride so we can hopefully finish (more or less) together to enjoy the journey back on the train. 38% of the way is unpaved, fine gravel. So bring a bike with at least 28 mm tires (MTB and Gravel bikes also good.) The attraction of this ride is the gritty parts of Oakland near-shore and then the shoreline starting in San Leandro going to Eden Landing / Hayward. There are approx. 10 miles of gravel unencumbered by motorized vehicles. Hopefully there will be a sunset that we can enjoy on the final miles of our journey. START POINT is Madison Street above Lake Merritt BART next to Wilma Chan Park. Anticipated finish time is 5 p.m. in South Hayward so that you should be back at Lake Merritt NLT 6 p.m. Please bring your BART CARD, enough food and water for the entire ride, functioning lights, and a spare tube. Preregistration is encouraged. Rain cancels. E-bikes okay. Novices who are comfortable riding on gravel encouraged.

Northgate Rd is now open and it looks like nice weather in the East Bay (~65 deg).
Meet in the penultimate northern parking lot of Heather Farm in Walnut Creek (by the baseball fields) for this ride to Clayton, Morgan Territory, and Diablo Junction. Lunch will be at Draeger's Market in Blackhawk Plaza.
Note that Heather Farm is about a mile from Pleasant Hill BART, which is probably the preferred way to get there. If you want to make the ride easier you can skip the Diablo climb after lunch and work your way back on the Iron Horse Trail. Navigation for that option is simple, but up to you.
There is usually a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. We'll start when everyone who arrives by the meeting time is ready. If you arrive after the meeting time you may have to chase. You can probably catch us at the park in Clayton, where we will have a brief stop.

Start Location: North Berkeley BART
Pre-registration
Please join us for a weekly Thursday evening ride. This is a short ride but with a steep climb! We’ll head up Virginia St and Spruce to Spruce/Grizzly Peak for our first regroup, then head out along Wildcat Canyon to South Park Rd. From there, we’ll climb South Park, descend, and climb it again as many times as the mood strikes us (usually two or three times is enough, but individual riders can shorten or lengthen the ride as desired). South Park is closed to cars starting November 1st, which makes it perfect for winter riding. If we complete two round trip ascents up South Park then back to N Berkeley Bart, expect about 2,300 feet of elevation gain. This is a great way to stay in shape over the winter!
NOTE: This is a night ride. Come with bright front and rear lights (and make sure they work). 20% chance or greater of rain cancels the ride. Please contact ride leaders with any questions.

As you might guess by the distance, it'll be my 83rd birthday. I don't do hills very well these days, so this is a rather flat, perhaps boring, ride, but it gives me a chance to ride my age, something I haven't been able to do for a few years. I don't do hills very well these days, so this is a rather flat, perhaps boring, ride, but it gives me a chance to ride my age, something I haven't been able to do for a few years. My grandson, Oliver, who lives in Rockville MD, will be here to do the ride (I hope he can manage the distance). I have some genuine Peloton of Elders t-shirts (medium only) for the first riders who register here or who email me that they are coming; however, they will be available at the 83 mile finish in Moraga.
Start location is Peet's in Danville.

Can't go on any of the great rides listed for Saturday? Come out and do a classic ride on Sunday instead while this great Fall weather lasts. Route is the classic Marin One Bakery loop, starting at Miller Creek, up and over Lucas Valley Road to Nicasio, Cheese Factory hill, Hicks Valley, Marshall Wall and then down the coast. Early regroup/porta-potty stop in Nicasio, then late lunch/snacks in Pt Reyes Station at the Bovine or wherever calls to you, no other extended stops planned. Leader will ride a strong TM pace, but other paces welcome for those comfortable navigating on their own, either off the front or off the back. Bring clothing appropriate to a chilly morning and then warming through the afternoon, and water and snacks to see you through. Rain cancels, but there's none in the forecast. Alternate start in Nicasio will shave 20 miles off the ride -- be in Nicasio ready to roll at 10:00. Let's ride.

Start Location:

Lake Merritt BART

We will plan on finishing before sunset (6:15pm) but days are short and a mechanical or two could easily have us finishing later. So lights are mandatory. If we do wind up finishing after sunset, we'll have the benefit of a full moon rising just as the sun sets.
This time of year, mornings in Cotati can be quite cold, and afternoons quite warm, so check the weather the day before and dress with appropriately flexible options.
