https://ridewithgps.com/routes/56312803

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------We should have some nice weather tomorrow. Here are some details on the ride:

Let me know if you plan on meeting at MacArthur BART or at the start in San Bruno.

Bring two bottles of water and electrolytes.

Bring some nutrition/snacks for the ride.

We will stop for lunch in HMB and give folks enough time to buy/eat lunch and for Mark A to drink a beer.

Make sure your bike is in good working order and be prepared for a flat tire or a mechanical issue. Parts of this route is remote where there may be no cell phone service at times. All riders should be self-reliant.

The route listed shows the dirt descent adjacent to Kings Mountain road. This has some very steep sections that will require some advanced descending skills. You can skip this section and ride down the road instead.

Please download the updated route to your device. I have updated the ride listing with links to updated routes (RWGPS and STRAVA) with suggested regroup points.

If you have an iPhone, please share your location with me for the day. That way if you get separated we may have a better chance of reconnecting depending on cell coverage.

Thank you,

Rick Patterson

Join us on this fun and challenging "Planet of the Apes" Mixed Terrain route on the peninsula which starts at San Bruno BART around 9:00am. For those who will BART, we will meet at Mac Arthur BART at 8:00am to catch the 8:09 train. For those starting at San Bruno BART, we will meet here at the Tanforan Memorial around 9:00am. We will ascend Sneath Lane Trail through Portola Highlands Park to Sweeney Ridge. After rolling through a neighborhood we ascend Old San Pedro Mountain before descending the same trail/road into Pacifica via Montara and then onto the scenic trails along the ocean in Half Moon Bay.

We will stop for a quick lunch in Half Moon Bay before climbing Purisima Creek Trail through Purisima Creek Canyon, with its towering redwoods, rushing creek, and understory of ferns, berries, and wildflowers. It’s a dirt version of Tunitas Creek and is among the best trails in the Bay Area. This is an 8 mile climb with 1900’ of elevation. We will descend the glorious Kings Mountain Rd. to Cañada Rd. and back to BART.

We know Nick's and the Cheeseboard, but let's expand our pizza knowledge beyond Oakland/Berkeley. On this ride we'll check out (1) Laundromat's bagels in the Outer Richmond, (2) focaccia-style pizza at Bernal Basket, and (3) the crispy yet chewy slice at Outta Sight in the Tenderloin. It's officially a 3 in terms of terrain, but it's a low 3, and with the stop-and-go nature of riding in San Francisco, we'll keep it chill.

See RWGPS route here. Briefly: Ferry Building - Civic Center via Howard - up McAllister - Pac Hts via Steiner and Clay - Lake and Balboa to Outer Richmond - Great Hwy - Sloat - St. Francis Wood - Glen Park via Monterey - Chenery - Bernal Hts - Folsom - Tenderloin - Market.

Status updates for weather cancellations will also be posted on the schedule.

There is sometimes a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. Faster riders should feel free to push on after lunch. Just tell the leader first.

SAT AUG 15 5!/LT/55 Lesser Known Hills of Berkeley and Rockridge
Leader: Naor Deleanu     (650) 533-2014
Meet at 8:00 am
Start Location: North Berkeley BART
Pre-registration
This is a placeholder ride for planning only. The leader needs to update it with more information.

This should be a relatively slow pace because I intend to ride on a bikeshare bike. However, regroups will be at the bottom, not the top. Tentative route: https://www.strava.com/routes/3509044319111941298. Most of these climbs have some pretty steep sections (extended 10+% or brief stretches of 15+%), some may be relatively unfamiliar (or hills you are more used to going down than up). Note there is a dirt descent at the end but that can easily be avoided. This is all local and easy to bail at any time.

Here are all the hills:
Loop 1: Shasta Road, Canon Drive, down Spruce, regroup at Shattuck and Vine (Cheeseboard)
Loop 2: Up Cedar+Buena Vista Way, down La Loma+Cedar, regroup at Shattuck and Virginia
Loop 3: Up Virginia, La Loma, Glendale, Campus, Avenida, Senor to Grizzly Peak Road, down Centennial, regroup at College and Bancroft.
Segment 4: Up Centennial all the way to Grizzly Peak, back down to College and Bancroft
Segment 5: Panoramic-Dwight, down Panoramic, regroup at College and Derby. This is the shortest segment but Dwight Way might have the steepest bit.
Segment 6: Up Claremont, down and up Fish Ranch, down Claremont, regroup at College and Russell
Segment 7: Up Alvarado, Drury, Strathmore, Marlborough Terrace to Grizzly Peak Blvd, left, down Claremont, regroup at College and Russell
Segment 8: Partway up Tunnel, left on Charing Cross, Down Hiller, regroup at Rockridge
Segment 9: Up Broadway Terrace, down Dirt Tunnel (or continue on the road), finish at Rockridge

SAT AUG 15 5/0/19 Individual Time Trial/GPC Pace Ride (repeats monthly)
Leader: Marie Noel Appel     (415) 254-4469
Meet at 9:40 am for a 10:00 am start
GPC Route: Bears Loop
Start Location: Orinda - San Pablo Dam Rd and Bear Creek Rd
Mandatory pre-registration

If no riders have signed up by 7 a.m. the morning of the ITT/GPC Pace Ride, it will be cancelled. If there is at least one rider signed up, it will go forward and riders can register online up until 9:50 a.m.

Individual Time Trial
Come test your fitness level and get in a great workout by riding the Bears Loop as a time trial. In the ITT, each person rides at his/her own pace (no drafting) to see how fast the Bears Loop can be completed. It’s a great format for pushing yourself to see how fast you can ride the loop.

Pace Group Ride
Ride the Bears Loop at your normal pace to use it to determine your GPC pace (https://www.grizz.org/rides/ratings.php). Or use this ride to train at a particular pace for an upcoming event.

The first rider is off at 10:01 and a rider a minute after that. For the GPC Pace ride, a pace group can start together, or each rider can rider on their own as the ITT riders do. (Regardless of the format, each rider is timed individually.)

Rider finishing times are usually shared in the ride report email to the club. While it is nice to see what times folks ride, reporting of rider times is optional. Also, the ITT is open to both members and non-members; no need to join as in the past.

Novice Series rides are designed to introduce new cyclists to safe riding in a group and to some easy routes. To check out the entire series and for more information see https://www.grizz.org/rides/novice.php. After you join us for a couple rides, please join the club. Your membership includes excess medical and accident insurance.

Starting from Pleasant Hill BART, we head south towards Danville. We return via Roundhill Golf course, Alamo, Walnut Ave, and Bancroft Way. This route stays away from Iron Horse Trail for the first two miles, as a courtesy to other trail users. Please join the ride leaders for lunch at Countrywood Shopping Center. Bring your lunch or money to buy lunch. There are an assortment of options. Pick your choice. The group will sit/eat at the outdoor seating area. The lunch stop is 2 miles from the finish; riders who wish to to bypass the lunch stop will be accompanied by a leader back to Pleasant Hill BART.

A spring time classic, Morgan Territory with a jaunt up to the junction.

The ride will start out of Heather Farms (conveniently close to Pleasant Hill BART) and work its way to Clayton. We will have a quick regroup with water and restrooms at mile 9 at Grove Park. We will then continue on Marsh Creek Rd until we split off to Morgan Territory Rd. We will regroup at Morgan Territory Staging for another water and restroom break around mile 22.

We will then have a long descent down and make our way to the now mostly empty Blackhawk Plaza. There are a few food options in the cafes and restaurants here.

Once everyone is nice and full, we will continue up towards South Gate Rd, make our way up to the junction, have another regroup with water and restrooms before we make our descent down North Gate Rd, and back to Heather Farms

This weekly ride often tours through West Marin, but sometimes travels to Napa, Sonoma, or Livermore, depending on the season. We have frequent regroups and usually stop for a real lunch, if it is available on the route. This listing will be updated when the route and leader have been determined, usually by Monday evening. Status updates for weather cancellations will also be posted on the schedule.

There is sometimes a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. Faster riders should feel free to push on after lunch. Just tell the leader first.

From Orinda BART we ride through Orinda, Lafayette and Moraga. This ride downtown Orinda to downtown Lafayette to downtown Moraga and return, using the St. Stephens bike trail, the Lafayette-Moraga bike trail, some neighborhood detours, and an out-and-back to the first Pinehurst hairpin.
