This Sunday I'm planning on doing a Paradise out and back. Meeting at the Shimizu parking lot at Piedmont and Echo at 9am then headed to Point Richmond regular BBC meetup spot (on Railroad Ave. near W Richmond Ave. ) at 10am. Out and back to Paradise with a possible stop at Johnny's Donuts in Larspur on the way out depending on the vibe. Hope to see you there. Heavy rain cancels but I'm guessing low to no rain based on the forecast. Cross posted with BBC and Timeless Rollers cycling clubs, hope to see you there.

Meet at 9:45 am
Start Location: Rockridge BART
Pre-registration
This ride is CANCELED due to wet roads and rain according to three weather reports. See you on March 17th for the rain date and the real 3rd Sunday.
We'll do the usual Tunnel, go through Moraga and Orinda, and return to our neck of the woods via Wildcat. The only twists are the neighborhoods we wend through along the way. We will approach Tunnel from Berkeley instead of from Keith and Broadway in Oakland. Returning, we will, from Spruce, turn well before Los Angeles to go through quieter streets before getting on more well traveled roads like California and Russell. Please check out this route and pin it if you come on this ride. Meet at 9:45. Roll at 9:55.

Start Location: San Rafael - Marinwood Community Center

Our guidelines presume a ride is cancelled at 30% chance of rain. It looks like we hit 40% in Petaluma 1-3pm so I’m canceling today’s ride. See you soon!
This ride starts at the Marinwood Community Center and follows the 101 freeway up to Petaluma for lunch. Then we loop around using D Street and Red Hill Rd to Nicasio before the final return via Lucas Valley Rd. Lunch is either at Walnut Park or River Front Cafe (your choice). There is a bathroom at the ride start. Please park on the street.

Meet at 9:30 am
GPC Route: Miller Creek to Marshall
Start Location: San Rafael - Marinwood Community Center
Pre-registration
Be prepared for a chilly beginning today.
From our Marinwood start, we will ride to Nicasio, then past the the Cheese Factory, Hicks Valley, and over the Marshall Wall to Hwy 1. Lunch in Pt. Reyes Station before completing the loop.
Shorten the ride to about 42 miles by starting in Nicasio. We should pass through there about 10:20 or so.
Please pre-register if you can. There is often a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. We'll start when everyone who arrives by the meeting time is ready. If you arrive after the meeting time you may have to chase. You can probably catch us in Nicasio, where we will have a short regroup.

Meet at 5:20 pm for a 5:30 pm start
Start Location: North Berkeley BART
Pre-registration
Please join us for a weekly Thursday evening ride. This is a short ride but with a steep climb! We’ll head up Virginia St and Spruce to Spruce/Grizzly Peak for our first regroup, then head out along Wildcat Canyon to South Park Rd. From there, we’ll climb South Park, descend, and climb it again as many times as the mood strikes us (usually two or three times is enough, but individual riders can shorten or lengthen the ride as desired). South Park is closed to cars starting November 1st, which makes it perfect for winter riding. If we complete two round trip ascents up South Park then back to N Berkeley Bart, expect about 2,300 feet of elevation gain. This is a great way to stay in shape over the winter!
NOTE: This is a night ride. Come with bright front and rear lights (and make sure they work). 20% chance or greater of rain cancels the ride. Please contact ride leaders with any questions.

It looks like wildcat creek trail might be closed for a little while. In addition more rain is coming this week. For this week will be taking the dirt to rifle range and then riding road from there. For subsequent weeks there will be an alternative route which include more trails.
Wednesday night mixed terrain is back! This is a bit of a trial run while we still settle on the day and start time, but expect this to be a recurring series. We will be riding a modified route for probably at least the first month until meadows canyon dries up, taking central park drive up to grizzly peak road instead. Be prepared to be finishing the ride in the dark so bring lights. There is rain in the forecast for Tuesday so there is a chance the route gets modified or turned into a road ride for this week only. Will post back here day of if there are any changes to plans.

It's wildflower season! We'll ride out and back on Mines Road for a total of 68 miles, which you can shorten to 58 by stopping at the junction rather than continuing to the elbow. The Junction Café is supposedly open under new owners, and cash-only. I plan to bring a few extra snacks just in case. We can probably get water at the fire station or junction, but bring two bottles anyway. The start location has rest rooms and water.

Maybe it will be sunny enough for poppies to open. Let's ride out and back on North Gate Road. Bring snacks and extra warm clothes since the descent will be chilly even if the climb is balmy. You decide how high you want to ride. Stop at the Junction (leaders will stop there for a snack, but probably continue); Juniper Campground is a second good stopping point or snack stop; or the summit Optional post ride stop at Ygnacio Plaza Shopping Center. There are several options for refreshments: Peets is a popular option. This Ridewithgps link has cues for each of these stops. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28884114

GPC Route: Solvang Five Canyons
Start Location: Solvang - Royal Copenhagen Inn
Pre-registration
6 pm Saturday: We plan to start this ride as scheduled and see how it goes. If it gets too wet we will probably take a shortcut or something.
See nearly all that Solvang has to offer in one big loop. See Longhorns, Llamas, Buffalo and Davey Crockett! This route has lots of slightly downhill stretches, before tackling Cat Canyon before lunch. We will have an elegant lunch in Los Alamos, before tackling the horribly rough Drum Canyon Road, then taking relatively smooth roads back to the start.
Current membership in GPC is expected. A cheerful adventurous attitude is encouraged. The route is listed above. Load it to your navigation device or print your own cue sheet. There will not be a paper handout. Please pre-register if you would like the leader to keep some track of you; there will not be a paper sign in sheet at the ride start. Two full water bottles and some nutrition make good sense. There will not be the extra water stop this year. The standards listed in the Rider Guidelines on our website always apply.

Take advantage of green scenery and great weather this weekend! Let's meet at Heather Farms and head out to Morgan Territory. We'll have lunch at the foot of Diablo before making the optional climb to Junction.

GPC Route:
Bears Loop
Start Location:
Orinda - San Pablo Dam Rd and Bear Creek Rd
Pre-registration
Come test and develop your cycling skills. Test your fitness level and get in a great workout by riding the Bears Loop as a time trial. Or, for new club members (or any GPC member), this is a good ride to find your pace as measured by GPC (see link https://www.grizz.org/rides/ratings.php). Rider finishing times are usually shared in the ride report email to the club. While it is nice to see what times folks ride, reporting of rider times is optional, just let the ride leader know.
The first rider is off at 10:01 and a rider a minute after that. 20% chance of rain cancels. The ITT is open to both members and non-members; no need to join as in the past. Pre-registration is optional, but strongly preferred.

Third time's a charm? Weather looks good, perhaps a little warm. We'll do the usual Tunnel, go through Moraga and Orinda, and return to our neck of the woods via Wildcat. The only twists are the neighborhoods we wend through along the way. We will approach Tunnel from Berkeley instead of from Keith and Broadway in Oakland. Returning, we will, from Spruce, turn on Montrose to go through quieter streets before getting on more well traveled roads like California and Russell. Also, there's a small stretch on Wildcat (about 30 feet) between Camino Pablo and El Toyonal where you might want to dismount and walk your bike. Please check out this route and pin it if you come on this ride. Meet at 9:45. Roll at 9:55.

Mines Road out and back to the elbow
Start Location:
Livermore - Ernie Rodrigues Softball fields
Pre-registration
The Junction Cafe may not be open. Bring plenty of snacks.
Arrive by the meeting time if you want to start with the group. There will be a regroup at the milepost 10.5 on Mines Rd (more or less the top of the initial climb). Then another at the Junction Café.

Come help us celebrate our last South Park climb of the season with dinner at Barney's (Shattuck and Cedar) after the ride. Please let us know if you're planning to join us so we can include you in our reservations. Thanks for a great season.

Join us for a chill T-pace version of the traditional Thursday evening road ride! We'll go up Spruce to Grizzly Peak and Skyline, then turn right to head down Shepherd's Canyon and ride back through Montclair and via the Lake Temescal bike path. For those unfamiliar the route, the first 7 miles are climbing and then the rest of the ride is mostly flat or downhill. Lights and a jacket are recommended.
The route does include a steep (13%) 2-block section toward the end, but it's easy to avoid if anyone prefers.
We will have multiple regroups and stick to a T pace on this ride. >>This ride is a no drop ride and we welcome folks new to the club<<
Note that leaders rotate weekly, but we will try to always have two leaders at each ride.

Solvang Five Canyons
Start Location:
Solvang - Royal Copenhagen Inn

Solvang Four Canyons Loop
Start Location:
Solvang - Royal Copenhagen Inn
Pre-registration
6 pm Saturday: We plan to start this ride as scheduled and see how it goes. We may turn around early if weather threatens.
See the best of Solvang and get to lunch quicker. Miss the roughest climb that I have ever done, Cat Canyon. After lunch, we tackle the second roughest road in the area. The even shorter ride possibility is to turn around at Fess Parker Winery, and return nearly the same way (26 miles).
A cheerful adventurous attitude is encouraged. Strong navigation skills or riding with a buddy who knows the route can be very helpful. Print your own cue sheet if needed. Please sign in online if you would like the leader to keep some track of you; there may not be a paper sign in sheet at the ride start. Two full water bottles and some nutrition make good sense.
