Meet at 9:00 am for a 9:15 am start
Start Location: Pleasant Hill BART
Pre-registration
Are we going nowhere? Not exactly. The plan is to ascend Diablo NG to peak, descend SG, runout to a spot for refreshments, then ascend SG to peak, and finally descend NG back to the start - Pleasant Hill BART.
1st of 3 Death Ride prep or just climb day. With so much climbing, which is hard to pace, I don't think this ride suits full regroup/no drop. Instead, I think the right approach is a buddy-up, small group, or even solo effort as riders find others with similar pace. This ride also suits modifiers like the junction versus peak, skip the SG, etc.

Start Location: Petaluma - Walnut Park
Pre-registration
Join me on this loop that starts off from Walnut Park in Petaluma and takes us to Tomales via Pt. Reyes-Petaluma Road. Note on the route that we don't stop at Pt. Reyes Station per usual. There will be a brief rest stop at Marin French (ca. mile 8) and a slightly longer bathroom and snack stop at the area across (kinda) the Marshall post office (ca. mile 27). The big treat, should you choose to partake, is a visit to Toluma Farms, which has goats and sheep. Their tours run from 1-3pm every first Sunday with a sliding scale admission of $5-40, which includes a cheese tasting. Let's meet at 9:00 at Walnut Park (bathrooms avail.) in Petaluma and roll soon thereafter (no later than 9:15).

This short ride is selected to beat the heat! But Conzelman Road, the heart of the ride, is one of the most beautiful in the Bay Area. We'll ride from Mill Valley through Sausalito, then enter Fort Baker where we'll start our climb up to Hawk Hill. After the exciting descent on Conzelman, we will head out toward Pt. Bonita, and then cross the valley and climb to Battery Townsley. A short descent takes us to Rodeo Beach where we will stop for regroup/lunch/snack (bring your own). On the way back, Driver's Market in Sausalito (on the cue sheet) has water buffalo soft serve ice cream, and a complete deli.
Chris and Pat will be riding from San Francisco to the ride start. If anyone wants to join us (braving the bridge east sidewalk with post memorial day bikes and peds) let us know.

We will be resuming with the classic route starting this month. Adjustments to the route may still need to be made in accordance with weather damage to trails, but as of May 1st everything was passable with a little walking. There may still be some mud in a few places but it was mostly dry on the 1st. At least 35mm tires recommended, bring lights for the ride back to BART.

Meet at 9:30 am
Start Location: Piper Park
Pre-registration
From Piper Park (water and rest rooms), we ride the bike route to Fairfax. Then over White Hill to Woodacre, Nicasio, and Pt Reyes Station (mile 25) for snacks. Then south to Stinson Beach for lunch (mile 42). Continue south on Hwy 1 to the climb through Muir Woods and the descent into Mill Valley. Final climb over Camino Alto and return to Piper Park via the bike path.
See the route on RideWithGPS. We may take the more complicated, but nicer bike route at the beginning to avoid San Anselmo.
This ride often has a faster group (more like M pace) and a regular TM group. The groups come back together at frequent regroups and lunch.

Join us for a chill T-pace version of the traditional Thursday evening road ride! We'll go up Spruce to Grizzly Peak and Skyline, then turn right to head down Shepherd's Canyon and ride back through Montclair and via the Lake Temescal bike path. For those unfamiliar with the route, the first 7 miles are climbing and then the rest of the ride is mostly flat or downhill. Lights and a light jacket/windbreaker are strongly recommended, especially since the ride finishes around sunset.
The route does include a steep (13%) 2-block stretch (Roanoke Rd.) toward the end, but riders can avoid it if needed.
We will have multiple regroups and will stick to a T pace (10-12 mph). This ride is a no-drop ride and we welcome folks new to the club!
*Note that leaders rotate weekly, and we will try to always have two leaders at each ride.

Meet at 9:45 am for a 10:00 am start
GPC Route: Bear Valley to Drakes Beach
Start Location: Point Reyes Bear Valley Visitor Center
Pre-registration
This is a staple -- and fan favorite -- of the Wednesday ride group. Start at Pt Reyes Visitor Center (parking, bathrooms), ride out via Bear Valley Road and Sir Francis Drake and return via Pt Reyes Station. Optional out and back to enjoy views from North Beach on the return. Stop at Inverness for snacks or sandwiches, but it's better to just bring your own (the sandwich shop in Inverness Park is slow). Lunch down at the picnic tables at Drake's Beach (bathrooms and water available, as well as a small snack shop), where we may see elephant seals. Optional late-ride stop in Pt Reyes Station for drinks or soft serve ice cream depending on group wishes. Weather forecast for Sunday shows clear skies and moderate temperatures at the coast, so come out to beat the in-land heat. TM pace accommodates a wide range -- contact the leader if you'd like to help out as a sweep or lead a T-paced group -- but this is not a "no drop" ride. We'll keep track of each other, but please be prepared to navigate the route, and for at least 2 significant hills and lots of long lumps in between -- the climb back up from Drake's Beach is a "groaner," but the roll back to Pt Reyes Station flies by quickly. Let's ride.

Option also for shortcut to lunch via Moscow Road. There is usually an option to do a loop on Austin Creek from River Road but I have had mixed message on whether the road is closed. Riders wanting a longer ride can check it out.

GPC Route: Miller Creek to Tomales (long version)
Start Location: San Rafael - Marinwood Community Center
Pre-registration
From Marinwood to Tomales via Nicasio and Chileno Valley, return via Hwy 1. This longer version of the ride comes into Tomales from the back side using Alexander, Fallon Two Rock, and Middle Roads.
There are some shorter options. You can start your ride in Nicasio to save 20 miles for the day. We should pass through there around 10:15. Also, you can skip the turn onto Alexander and ride straight into Tomales for the lunch stop. That saves about 4 miles. Please review the map ahead of time and be prepared to navigate this change on your own if you think you might want to do it.
There is sometimes a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. We'll start when everyone who arrives by the meeting time is ready. If you arrive after the meeting time, you may have to chase. You can probably catch us at our regroup in Nicasio.

Are we going to the play? Not today. This ride will ascend Hamilton from west, descend into the wilds of the east side, then turn around and ascend Hamilton from the east. Finally drop Hamilton back to start. Turnaround at Junction Cafe - known for unreliable hours, so reccommend to pack eats. 2 large bottles, suggest to fill up at Mt. Hamilton peak in case none available at Junction. Be conservative, turnaround spot is desolate and remote.
2nd of 3 Death Ride prep or just climb day. With so much climbing, which is hard to pace, I don't think this ride suits full regroup/no drop. Planned Route. Now is a good time to check out Crockett hills before it gets too hot or dry. There is no water in the park, so make sure you bring enough to drink for multiple hours of riding in hot weather. This route can be done on a gravel bike but a mountain bike is preferred. We aren't riding anything technical, but you should be comfortable riding narrower trails with some tight turns and occasional steep sections both up and down.

If you haven't done Calaveras before, note that this route is on the lower end of 3; the hills are gentle unless you want to go down to Felter and climb back up!
Please arrive at 9:45 to do basic introductions. We will leave around 9:55. There is a train arriving at 9:18 and another at 9:38. There are bathrooms at this station and it would be best to arrive early to use them.

Now that BoFax Road is open, it is time to repost this ride. Cross off two of the 2024 Epic Climbs with this most excellent double ascent up Mt. Tam. Meet in Pt. Richmond at 8:15 for a 8:30 rollout. We will go over the RSRB and head over to Corte Madera and Mill Valley to follow the Mt Tam Epic Climb segment up the Molina Wall and the Panoramic Highway for our first ascent. then down the quick way to Stinson for a lunch break. After lunch, we will ride north and take BoFax up to Ridgecrest onto our second ascent. We will then turn around, come down and take BoFax past Alpine Dam to Fairfax. Then it is a relatively flat jaunt to San Rafael and the RSRB back to Pt. Richmond. The route is listed here: Double Tam Epic Climb. Note that the ride leader will be rolling out from his house in South Berkeley to be in Pt. Richmond by 8:15. This is listed as M pace but will probably be at the lower end given the amount of climbing. Check back here on Friday night for final update in case MPW decides to close the road to bikes or the wind shifts and there is projected to be bad AQI.

Good evening,
Here is the new and updated route (Tuesday, 25 June, 7:43 p.m.)
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/47292530
China Camp and Paradise Loops
This 45-mile route combines two popular loops close to home. Begin at McNear’s Beach in San Rafael where there are bathrooms and free parking. From here, we will begin a counterclockwise loop around China Camp State Park, cut through the city of San Rafael and make our way towards Paradise Drive. Lunch will be at mile 27 in Tiburon’s shoreline-park- with- a- view next to the Angel Island Ferry Terminal and Café Acri. After lunch we will complete the Paradise loop and head back to McNear’s Beach via Point San Pedro road. A special bonus for the contemplative and the loquacious is breathtaking outdoor seating at Andy’s Market near the end of our journey (mile 43). Consider stopping for a cool beverage and end-of-the-ride conversation with your Grizzly bike buddies.
Bring water, snacks and lunch. Café Acri has some assorted foodstuffs.
Rain, fire/smoke and extreme weather cancels: check here for updates
Meet at McNear’s Beach at 10 a.m. Roll at 10:15 a.m.

REVISED START TIME
Are we going nowhere? Not exactly. The plan is to ascend Diablo NG to peak, descend SG, runout to a spot for refreshments, then ascend SG to peak, and finally descend NG back to the start - Pleasant Hill BART.
3rd of 3 Death Ride prep or just climb day. With so much climbing, which is hard to pace, I don't think this ride suits full regroup/no drop. Instead, I think the right approach is a buddy-up, small group, or even solo effort as riders find others with similar pace. This ride also suits modifiers like the junction versus peak, skip the SG, etc.

Come cross off a couple from the Epic Climbs 2024 list by going up Mt. Umunhum from the (easier) south side then crossing the spectacular Coyote Valley before ascending the equally spectacular Dunne Ave up to the entrance of Henry Coe. From there it is 30 miles of mostly downhill back to the start. Meet at 8:15 near the bathrooms at Parma Park - San Jose; (37.22148355873762, -121.8709145085709) for an 8:30 rollout. There is no parking at Parma Park but there is street parking. I listed this as an M ride but it will probably be at the low end of M. Also, we will roll a fair number of miles on the Coyote Creek Trail which is a paved but a multi-use roadway (no cars!) so we should keep our speed in check while on that. Extreme temperatures or bad AQI will force a reschedule and check here the night before for any last minute changes. The route can be found here: Mt. Um from the South and Dunne
Note:
I have changed the route somewhat to make it Bartable. Meet at the North San Jose/Berryessa Bart Station for a rollout at 8:15. I will be on the BART train that is scheduled to arrive at 8:06. The additional miles are pretty flat and the new route can be found here: Mt. Um from the South and Dunne Bartable

GPC Route: Pinole to Carquinez and Martinez
Start Location: Pinole Valley Park

Consider this a kinder, gentler climb-fest, closer to home and with some great views thrown in. We'll ride a lollipop 35-mile route from Pinole Valley Park over Pig Farm Hill to Martinez via up Franklin Canyon, DOWN McEwen and through the Carquinez Scenic Drive. Food & drink at the Starbucks plaza in downtown Martinez at mile 22. Return via Alhambra Valley and the return climb on Pig Farm. Those wishing more miles are free to start in Orinda, Berkeley, or elsewhere and meet the group in Pinole or at the intersection of Castro Ranch Road and Alhambra (let the leader know you're coming!), or tack on a few more miles by doing a loop around the Bears before returning to Pinole at the end. Current forecast lists a high of 80* in Martinez, but we should be done with the bulk of the ride before the heat really kicks in. Bring water and the basic tools needed in the event of flats or a mechanical (tubes, levers, a multi-tool). Leader rides a TM pace, which allows for a range of actual paces -- please be prepared with whatever navigation method you use in the event you find yourself off the front or the back. Plenty of parking and restrooms at Pinole Valley Park. Let's ride.

Let's ride.

Help celebrate our June birthdays- Debbie, Margie, Sally, Jim, Tom W, Jackie, Pat R, David, Lucy (in absentia) ) with our annual ride from Valley Ford through Occidental to Duncan Mills for lunch and birthday treats with a return along Hwy 1. The basic ride is about 40 miles. . On return along Hwy 1, there is an optional steep climb up Bay Hill Rd. There will also be optional out and back to Jenner for seal overlook. Option also for shortcut to lunch via Moscow Road. There is usually an option to do a loop on Austin Creek from River Road but I have had mixed message on whether the road is closed. Riders wanting a longer ride can check it out.
Bring lunch or buy lunch in Duncans Mills. There are pizza and sweets at the Gold Coast Coffee and Bakery where we have lunch or you can buy a sandwich across the road at the general store.
Bring layers for the ride along the coast.

Miller Creek to Tomales (long version)
Start Location:
San Rafael - Marinwood Community Center

We will have multiple regroups and will stick to a T pace (10-12 mph average over the course of the ride). This ride is a no-drop ride and we welcome folks new to the club!
