Meet at 10:00 am
Pre-registration
The San Francisco Marathon is today (I learned belatedly). Our routes coincide on the JFK Promenade. I can find no word that JFK is closed to bikes and pedestrians, so I expect the impact to be greater congestion in this area, but this is not a long section.
Meet at the Panhandle restrooms; located in the Golden Gate Park Panhandle, just west of Ashbury. This location is easily accessible from Civic Center BART; Exit BART at UN Plaza, go west on Market Street following the well marked route to the "wiggle" to the Panhandle. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/19701226 or use Chris's favorite route https://ridewithgps.com/routes/16292705
The weather forecast looks good, so we decided to ride San Bruno Mountain on Sunday (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43757468). We will ride through Golden Gate Park, enjoying the new JFK Promenade, along Ocean Beach and to the top of San Bruno Mountain, the highest spot for miles around. After descending from the summit, we will regroup at the San Bruno Mountain Park picnic area (water, restrooms) for lunch/snacks; bring your own. Return through McLaren Park and over Twin Peaks where the east side of the Figure 8 and part of the descent are permanently closed to to motor vehicles and open for bikes and peds (for now). Optional regruop on Cole Street near the end of the ride for coffee/other goodies. There are many turns on this urban/suburban ride, but we will enlist marshals for corners, and if you want to go ahead; you can use the ridewithgps route. In this urban traffic environment, 27 miles feels longer. It is hilly, and there are a couple of VERY short steep sections in McLaren Park.
Weather forecast: Partly sunny at the beach, less than 60° in the morning, windy; bring layers for this coolest segment.
If you want a cue sheet, let me know, and I will send you a pdf.
Please pre-register!! If you bring a non-member friend, sign them up.
