UPDATE:

This ride is cancelled due to probable rain. See this schedule for a substitute ride on Wednesday, Feb 5, when weather looks a lot better.

This weekly ride often tours through West Marin, but sometimes travels to Napa, Sonoma, or Livermore, depending on the season. We have frequent regroups and usually stop for a real lunch, if it is available on the route. This listing will be updated when the route and leader have been determined, usually by Monday evening. Status updates for weather cancellations will also be posted on the schedule.

There is sometimes a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. Faster riders should feel free to push on after lunch. Just tell the leader first.

UPDATE:

This ride is canceled today/Feb. 6 due to rain. Please join us next Thursday!

Please join us for a weekly Thursday evening ride. This is a short ride but with a steep climb! We’ll head up Virginia St and Spruce to Spruce/Grizzly Peak for our first regroup, then head out along Wildcat Canyon to South Park Rd. From there, we’ll climb South Park, descend, and climb it again as many times as the mood strikes us (usually two or three times is enough, but individual riders can shorten or lengthen the ride as desired). South Park is closed to cars starting November 1st, which makes it perfect for winter riding. If we complete two round trip ascents up South Park then back to N Berkeley Bart, expect about 2,300 feet of elevation gain. This is a great way to stay in shape over the winter!

NOTE: This is a night ride. Come with bright front and rear lights (and make sure they work). 20% chance or greater of rain cancels the ride. Please contact ride leaders with any questions.

MON FEB 17 3/TM/63 Monticello Dam from Cordelia
Leader: Mark Abrahams
Meet at 9:00 am for a 9:10 am start
Start Location: Cordelia Junction, Green Valley Shopping Ctr, near the Starbucks (but not directly in front)
Pre-registration

A few days ago, the Monticello Dam glory hole spillway was overtopping. This only happens every few years. Maybe it still is -- let's find out! Even if not, this is a delightful rural route for the holiday Monday.

The route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49727481. One food stop at the Markley Cove store, about halfway. The route is quite rural with no other supply stops that I know of, so carry extra food plus two water bottles.

Ride pace is TM -- as in real TM, not aspirational. This is not a no-drop ride. Please be prepared to take care of yourself and have appropropriate navigation in case you find yourself off the front or the back. Don't rely on cell phone coverage.

Meet, ready to ride, at 9:00am for prompt departure at 9:10am. Please arrive earlier if you need time for restrooms, or coffee, or to set up.

Pre-registration is appreciated. Carpooling is encouraged. Contact the ride leader if you need a lift there or if you can offer one. Rain cancels -- but the forecast 2 days in advance is for good riding weather.

Route. 3k ft of elevation total. We'll be starting from Rockridge and ending at San Leandro. The trails should have had some time to dry but expect there to still be some puddles and muddy spots. 38mm+ tires are recommend and be comfortable riding dirt. The climbs and descents should mostly be moderate for this one, but there are a few short sections approaching 15% grade. There will be the opportunity for lunch in San Leandro, location TBD.

Join us to prep for the Century Prep Series!

It’s time to shake off the cold winter weather and warm up for cycling season! We aim to prepare everyone for the Century Prep Series by offering a shorter ride at a slower pace. We will be riding up Tunnel Road, a classic Berkeley climb, at a leisurely pace with enough stops to catch our breath. Then riding on Grizzly Peak Blvd to descend down Claremont and return to start. This is a NO DROP ride and non-members welcome! Optional bagel stop at Nick’s Bakery after the ride!

Start at Ashby BART Station. Ride with GPS Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49650150

This ride is in honor of my birthday. We will ride a loop around Paradise Drive to the Junction Beer Garden/Pizza Hacker where I will host beer, soft drinks and pizza. From there it is a flat 1.4 miles back to the start.

There is a RWGPS route and some cue sheets linked here. The RWGPS cue sheet has a couple of glitches, but its map and the other cue sheets are good. Please print or download what you need in advance.

Miller Creek to Marshall
Start Location:
San Rafael - Marinwood Community Center
Pre-registration

From our Marinwood start, we will ride to Nicasio, then past the the Cheese Factory, Hicks Valley, and over the Marshall Wall to Hwy 1 along Tomales Bay. Lunch in Pt. Reyes Station before completing the loop.

Shorten the ride to about 42 miles by starting in Nicasio. We should pass through there about 10:20 or so.

Please pre-register if you can. There is sometimes a faster (more like M pace) group on this ride, but we all come back together at frequent regroups and lunch. We'll start when everyone who arrives by the meeting time is ready. If you arrive after the meeting time you may have to chase. You can probably catch us in Nicasio, where we will have a short regroup.
